Tips for Decorating Your Home for Fall

Hello!

Welcome to, or welcome back to, my home on the internet! I’m happy you can be here ❤

One of my favorite parts of the year is fall: the creativity, the new beginnings, the promise of rebirth, the changing colors of the leaves where every leaf is a vibrant jewel, sweaters and handknit socks, and preparing for a cozy hibernation. The heat of the summer is lessened, but fall doesn’t quite hold the same chill sting of winter.

I digress ;).

Today we’ll be looking at what we’ve talked about earlier in previous posts, and putting everything together. This includes brainstorming your fall decorating plan, shopping for any new fall décor on your budget, and creating the final masterpiece in your home ❤.

I am not an interior designer. I do have a few tips I can share from working with visual merchandising throughout the years.

Tips for Decorating Your Own Fall Oasis

Color

Create harmony in your decorating with coordinating colors. A favorite way to decorate for me is adding pops of color to neutrals, particularly jewel tones and pastels to creams, tans, whites, and grays. Neutrals plus gold is another aesthetically pleasing fall color combo. Or, maybe stick to natural fall colors, such as reds, marigolds, oranges, blues, greens, browns, and tan.

Texture

Create variation with textures. This can be done through blankets and balancing woods (like a sign) ceramics (for example, the outside of a candle), and different types of cloth decorations (such as a cloth pumpkin).

Groupings

How you arrange things directs your eye. Something I’ve learned (I’m not quite sure where: there are different variations of it across design, photography, and writing) is the rule of three, or grouping things in threes. I think it helps your eye focus and take in what it’s looking at, rather than trying to find patterns. It’s more satisfying for the eyes.

Wrapping Up ❤

I hope this was helpful in starting your fall decorating, whether that happens at the end of August, or later in the fall.

Until Next Time ❤

Thank you for joining me! I’m happy you could be here :).
