Aesthetic, Simple, and Beautiful Ways to Add Joy to Our Homes

***Originally published on JoyMadeApproachable.com on April 29th, 2022.

Hi!

Welcome to or welcome back to my home on the internet – I’m happy you’re here :)!

Today I’m sharing a rewritten and edited version of a post I uploaded to my first blog in early 2021– I hope you learn something new and enjoy ❤.

Searching for Joy

After years of searching for, researching, and practicing joy and “joie de vivre,” (the French “joy of life,”) when I came out of some difficult times in my mid-twenties, joy hit me like a truck – just with more positive implications.

I experienced so much joy and contentment at one time, it was kind of overwhelming. However, that joy, as well as the gratitude I experienced and still do experience, carries me through hard times that are bound to and still do happen. It also helps me think clearly when my heart, mind, soul, and body are clouded by suffering.

In this post, I’ll be sharing simple, easy, and beautiful ways to add joy to your home. As always, these posts aren’t and shouldn’t be a replacement for finding help if you’re suffering. I’m hoping, however, that this and other posts will supplement your journey towards wholeness, healing, joy, and gratitude. I also hope they provide some inspiration to care for yourself and your home, no matter where you live, how big or small your living space is or your style.

These are some simple, light-hearted tips that have brought a lot of joy into my current home I’ve lived in for almost 6 years.

Enjoy!

Aesthetic, Simple, and Beautiful Ways to Add Joy To Our Homes

Inspiring, Joyful, and Peaceful Decorating Pieces and Pictures

Some good sources for pictures and decorating pieces are Etsy, Target, Marshall’s, and HomeGoods. I also like finding pieces when I visit a market or small business local to the place I’m visiting when I travel, or in my home city.

Real or Fake Plants

If you’re like me, you can keep children and pets alive pretty easily. However, plants are a bit harder. Fake plants can add to the joyful aesthetic of your home. However, real plants can also add joy. This comes through caring for them…and keeping them alive! Real plants can also improve the air quality of your home. I have a combination of both fake and real plants. This is because I know I won’t joyful if I have too many plants. I’ll get overwhelmed and won’t be able to keep any of them alive. I recommend finding the balance that’s right for you.

Fresh Flowers, Whether from Your Garden, Patio, or a Store

During the spring and summer, I love keeping potted flowers on my patio and trimming the blooms to keep in vases throughout my home. Sometimes I’ll supplement these blooms with an inexpensive but beautiful bouquet from Trader Joe’s – Trader Joe’s tends to have affordable prices on flowers.

Keeping Our Homes Neat, Clean, and Organized

I’ve noticed over time that I love when I keep my home organized, neat, and clean. I feel more joyful, have more energy, think more clearly, and manage stress more easily. It can be hard sometimes to keep a tidy home, especially when we’re busy. However, it definitely helps me feel better.

Cozy Blankets

Different textures of cozy blankets can add to the positive aesthetic and joy inherent in our homes. Plus, they’re fun to curl up in, regardless of whether you’re relaxing or working.

Candles

Regardless of the season, candles can increase the joy and coziness factor in our homes.

A Diffuser

A diffuser is a simple way to incorporate fresh scents into your home. To use a diffuser, you add water into the basin, and add a  few drops of your favorite essential oil or oils.
