A Beautiful Oasis in the Midst of the Urban Jungle

Hello!

I’m happy you’re here - welcome to, or welcome back to my corner of the internet.

I’ve had the opportunity to visit a variety of beautiful and unique coffee shops and cafes around the Twin Cities metro area and the North Shore recently.

A particular standout is Backstory Coffee, a coffee shop located in the North Loop of Minneapolis.

The North Loop is home to a ton of gorgeous, historic architecture and contains many unique restaurants, wonderful coffee shops and cafes, and beautiful stores.

A Unique Gem

Tucked into the lobby of the Duffey Apartment Complex Backstory is a unique gem that simultaneously fits well into this neighborhood.

Backstory’s location has a bit of an industrial yet cozy, warm and inviting, and slightly academic/unique library feeling in its design.

With its gorgeous atmosphere, I can’t forget to mention its flavorful and luscious coffee beans, as well as its incredibly delicious coffee, matcha, and tea drinks.

Delicious Seasonal Drinks

The coffee shop not only offers traditional coffee, matcha, and other types of tea drinks every day; they also creates seasonal drinks that change with the Minnesotan weather (every fall, winter, spring, and summer, to be clear 😅 - Minnesota weather can be a little unpredictable at times.)

Their summer seasonal menu currently includes a peaches and cream latte, a pina colada cold brew, a summer tiger matcha, and a cascara cold brew soda.

During a recent visit, I tried Backstory’s seasonal pina colada cold brew. Emanating vibrant citrus and tropical notes and topped with coconut cream, it was quite literally one of the best coffee drinks I’ve ever tried.

Coffee Pour Overs. Below are two types of coffee pour-overs, as well as Chemex coffee filters, I’ve had the opportunity to use. My husband and I currently have a Bodum pour-over, and I’ve also been able to use a friend’s Chemex. I’ve had great experiences with both! What you prefer is really up to you and your price range and preferences.

Wrapping Up

Backstory is a great location for meetings, studying, getting together with friends, reading, working remotely, etc.

This coffee shop tends to be extremely busy on weekends and is a bit less so during weekdays.

Due to this spot’s location, parking is generally limited. There are multiple parking ramps you will need to pay for in the area, as well as street parking, that I also believe you might need to pay for.

Overall, it’s a gorgeous spot with a beautiful atmosphere and a wide variety of excellent drinks.

Until Next Time ❤

Checking out unique coffee shops can be a wonderful way to explore your city’s neighborhoods and support small businesses, all while enjoying a small luxury that can be a great celebration of joy. Backstory seems to be a particularly thoughtful company in both its coffee roasting and coffee beans, to the fresh coffee, matcha, and tea drinks, as well as their locations and interior design and layout.

I hope you enjoyed this post, especially if you’re looking for a new-to-you coffee shop to visit, and that you’re encouraged and inspired to explore unique spots wherever you live and travel to.
